ART IN THERAPY
ART IN THERAPY
Faced with evident phenomena of difficulty and discomfort in large social sectors concerning the area of communication, expression and emotional management, we believe it is necessary to request an interdisciplinary confrontation path between all operators (first and foremost those in the vast area of art therapy) engaged in the expressive, artistic, educational, rehabilitative, therapeutic area, in synthesis between all the professional areas that mainly use the artistic element in socio-sanitary and research contexts.
In the development of specialist research, together with scientific and cultural growth and enrichment, the need emerges for a circuit of the experiences that gradually take place, making sure that the overall and interdisciplinary area benefits positively. In the specialist development and fragmentation of research, artistic expression is very often inserted in educational, rehabilitative and therapeutic areas. The experiences of applied research in this field must be able to be life-giving and restorative for many neighboring environments and it is necessary to avoid any excessively technical epistemological drift that would risk depriving the whole art of its millenary potential educational, rehabilitative and therapeutic function (in addition to indicating a further anachronistic burden on health expenditure). It is generally known that the newborn becomes part of an ecosystem, even an artistic one, and modifies it (and is modified) profoundly; he tends to carry out a process of complementarity also and above all with the sensorial environment, through an interactive mechanism that defines the boundaries of mutual compatibility. Considering negatively the state of the metropolitan sensory ecosystem, it can be affirmed that evidently a particular exploratory and communicative ability and a modifiability and adaptability of one's own rhythms and behavioral choices are needed, which are not spontaneous in general but that can be learned with experience, especially if guided by the interaction with expert and professionally trained people. If this applies to the "able-bodied" child, all the more so for the disabled person, who has further problems (dirty sensors) in exploring and managing the ecosystem. The operator's aim is to increase the expressive adaptive variability and modifiability, through the targeted modulation of the perturbations present in the ecological niche (initially in the sensorial dialogue). The exploration of the boundary between limits and expressive possibilities is fundamental, facilitating the individual to produce variables, self-organization, reflection, comparison, verbal and non-verbal commentary of the experience itself.
